Caldera Brewing Wins More Gold Medals

Ashland, Oregon 6-17-08  Caldera Brewing Company recently won two gold medals and one silver at the 2008 North American Beer Awards held in Idaho Falls, Idaho.  Caldera won a silver medal for India Pale Ale which is currently packaged in 12 oz. cans.  Caldera also took home a gold medal for its Pilot Rock Porter in the Brown Porter category and another gold medal for its Smokers Stout in the Foreign Stout category.  Caldera brewed Smokers Stout last fall in honor of Sawyer Paddles 40th Anniversary celebration with great response from the community.

Caldera Brewing Company, located in Ashland, Oregon was founded in 1997 by Head Brewer, Jim Mills.  Caldera is dedicated and determined to produce uncompromised quality ales and lagers.  Caldera is the first and only craft brewery in Oregon to can beer.  Currently Caldera Pale Ale and Caldera IPA are available in 12 oz. cans with plans on introducing Ashland Amber in cans later this summer.  Caldera produced 2211 barrels of beer last year and are on pace to produce 3400 barrels in 2008.  1 barrel of beer = 31 gallons or two kegs.

Defined as a microbrewery, Caldera is a wholesale operation without a pub, restaurant, or tasting room.  Caldera products are available at the brewery on Tuesdays and Fridays from 3:00 – 5:00 (www.calderabrewing.com), from Gold River Distributing in Southern Oregon (773-4641), and Mt Hood Beverage for the rest of Oregon (www.mhbco.com).
